![]() ![]() Mum got up, husband came home (and went to bed, which was ok) at 7:30 the contractions got really strong, I had been doing things like bouncing on a gym ball, laying on the sofa etc. I told her to go back to stay in bed as I didn't want her to get up if they stopped, I phoned my husband and told him that my contractions had started and if he wanted to come home that was fine, but they wasn't strong. My daughter is nearly 2 4 months, she was born 18 June 06, at around 2 in the morning I woke up from a dream where I was in labour, lo and behold I was, my husband was on nights and my mum was staying with me, at 2:30am I shouted to my mum, that I thought I had started my contractions, which were quite nice at that time. And you are constantly monitored - and the feeling of having done it all yourself is wonderful!!:D The risks in having a VBAC are there, but only happen in a few cases. All went absolutely smooth sailing (well except for the pain!!) Gave birth at 8pm that evening with no complications. They gave me the drip and also artificially ruptured my waters - me scared like hell! But the midwives were constantly checking me and bump, I had to wear one of those monitoring belts. In the end I was booked in for a induction at 10am on April 15 08. This upset me quite a lot because I felt I had missed out on giving birth naturally.įell pregnant again July last year, was told I had a good chance of a vbac as the reason for my c-sec was not really medical, but they also focussed so much on telling me about ruptures and increased risk of serious complications which ended up scaring me so much! Heres my story, I had my first child by C-section in 2005 - was in labour all weekend and by the time I was 7cms dilated they realised my baby was in brow position and so they took me to theatre as I was exhausted and baby was becoming distressed. That's it short and sweet and am hoping to add my own positive story here in about 4 weeks. He needed a bit of help with a ventouse at the end but she had no regrets - recovered within hours rather than months and says there is no comparison if she were to have another she would go for vaginal birth over section any day. I think she did terrifically and was incredibly brave as she hadn't fully laboured with the first. She found some midwives who championed her cause not to be constantly monitored and in fact for most of the time laboured in birthing pool in hospital - only having to get out at the end. It's not my story - it's my sisters so I don't know all gory details but basically she had emergency c section (quite calm unrushed one if there is such a thing) having been induced with drip as baby was small and she wasn't progressing in natural labour. She only dilated 2 cm and in the end had a section which she recovered from in standard time with no extra complications of infections.Ģ yrs later she gave birth by VBAC to a healthy baby boy. Membrane sweeping Post term pregnancy VBAC.Just thought I would add something as no replies makes me feel jittery. The mean gestation age at delivery 40☐.56 weeks for study group compared with 39.92☐.55 weeks for control group.Īlthough membrane sweeping is an easy way of inducing labour, present study failed to demonstrate its beneficial effect on obstetrical outcome. The rate of VBAC was 17.3% in study group in compared to 18.7% in control group and LSCS was 82.7% in study group in compared to 81.3% in control group respectively. The mean interval from sweeping to labour onset was 50.15☘ hours. The onset of labour in study group was 61.3% similar in control group 64% with p 0.736. The secondary outcome included the successful vaginal delivery, number of membrane sweeping to initiate labour, sweeping to delivery interval and amount of oxytocin required. The primary outcomes measured were number of patients who had onset of labour. All the cases were monitored by biophysical profile. In control group, no intervention up to 41 weeks of gestation. ![]() ![]() In study group serial membrane sweeping was done once weekly from 39 weeks of gestation until the onset of labour up to 41weeks of gestation. Seventy five women were randomly assigned to membrane sweeping and seventy five to control. This prospective randomised control study was conducted in Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Puducherry between January 2011 to June 2012. To initiate labour in previous LSCS patients by membrane sweeping and maternal outcome. This study is an effort to find the effect of membrane sweeping in previous caesarean section. However, there is paucity of data about the use of this method for induction of labour and reducing prolonged labour in pregnancy with previous caesarean section. Sweeping of membrane is a method of induction of labour.
